DREAMS OF HOME

3" x 3" Weave for Framing
Small but mighty.
This project was the third and final deliverable in a Materiality & Meaning Fibers class I took at SCAD. The objective was to produce a 3" x 3" weave based on a photograph.
Dreams of Home started with a picture I took of Burke Mountain from the kitchen windows at my my parents house in Vermont. This amazing view include all of the mountains in Northeastern Vermont and spans all the way through the Presidential range of the White Mountains of New Hampshire. My audience... My parents.
I found this project to be very meditative. In an arena I was unfamiliar with I was fascinated by the tactility of the various strands of colorful materials and how they enhanced the textures and depth of the scenery in the weave.
I became very invested in this project and found such beauty in the imperfections of the work. The honesty and wholesomeness within the experimentations with fibers contributed to a more accurate representation of the actual landscape. It gave it life, value, made it unique and a deeper connection developed with the process which more meaningfully informed the work.
When the sun beams split cloud layers and hit the mountain at just the right time and angle with the right atmospheric conditions it illuminates the mountain and creates a breath taking scene known as alpenglow.

I used the Dreams of Home weave as the rug in the living room mockup for my Farmart Collective project. Its location and connection with the land and the communities that surround this majestic scene are the grounds from which the earths bounty is harvested and the people connected.
